Hangover? What hangover?

Morning beauty hacks for looking rested after a good time and a late night out.

So Monday is National Margarita Day. Monday doesn't seem like the best day of the week to celebrate an alcoholic beverage, LOL. Apparently its every February 22, but I think it should be a day like Thanksgiving, that adjusts to always be on Friday or weekend day.  But I guess if you DO go out celebrating Margarita Day on Monday, these tips below will be all the more useful to you if you still have to do the usual Tuesday grind the next day

10 Things About Me

everyday stilettos

  1. I worked full time while going to law school at night, and took the California bar while 6 months pregnant (and passed!)
  2. I played basketball, volleyball and ran track in high school.
  3. I tried being blonde once (I don't think I had more fun.)
  4. I wanted to be a horse jockey when I was growing up.
  5. I always wished I had learned to dance.
  6. My least favorite feature on my face is my nose (though I don't hate it. It's just my least favorite.)
  7. I don't have a favorite color specifically, I favor blues/greens/teals.
  8. I got married in Hawaii.
  9. I have a really bad habit of picking at my cuticles. It drives my husband crazy.  It's worse when I'm anxious/nervous.
  10. I have WAY too many beauty products at home.

No One is Perfect

I am of the generation that remembers life without email (even without cell phones! I first learned to make phone calls on a rotary phone. Do people even know what that is anymore?).  I am totally dating myself, but AOL was the beginning when I was in school. We had to listen to the dial-up modem sound as we logged in to check our email.   We had pagers to keep in contact with our friends, and numerical codes to send messages (early texting shorthand: 143 = I love you, etc.)

Then social media came along - we all had MySpace first, then Facebook blew up.  And everything has seemed like warp speed since then.  It's really hard to imagine life without all this tech now, but I do actually remember it, and am thankful I grew up when I did.  I think the stages of my life perfectly coincided with the growth of technology: I was young enough to grow with it, so it wasn't like I was trying to play catch-up learning it all, but the tech itself was still mild enough that I was able to get through the 'tough years' (aka adolescence) without the often harsh and critical social media world weighing on me.  While social media has created so many new, positive, creative forums and connected people in positive ways, it has also created a place for cowardly, immature and ignorant people to have a more profound effect than they ever should.

And even as an adult, it can be hard not to let the media ( in all its forms) get to you.  Its only human to compare ourselves to each other, and its hard to remember that what we're seeing is only what other's want us to see.  I took some dorky photos during this session, but I obviously only used the ones I liked in this post.  I compare myself to others as well, and then judge myself.  But my goal of this blog is to be who I am, and share who I am and what I have to offer, and not be anyone else.  Because no one is perfect. And everyone is different. We all just need to be the best version of ourselves.

Flashback Friday - Denver Trip

Flashing back to last month, when we were able to finally visit some friends of ours who have moved to Denver.  The wife was throwing a birthday dinner for her husband, so we took a long weekend and flew out Saturday - Monday.  As the trip approached I was looking forward to escaping the crazy heat we'd been having in Los Angeles, but it turned out it wasn't any cooler in Denver, and it may have even been a record high while we were there.

But hot days usually equal great evenings once the sun goes down, and that was the case, which was good, because as you can see, dinner was on the roof.  There was a beautifully set up and catered dinner which included cold cucumber soup (almost like a smoothie in a bowl), a fresh salad, and perfectly cooked short ribs (which I remembered to Snap, but didn't save the photos. They didn't do it justice anyway.)  After dinner we moved from the roof to the ground level patio, where there was a custom cigar roller (I don't smoke, but the guy was nice), and a Frank Sinatra impersonator to serenade us for a couple hours.  It was a small party (about 16 of us) but met some very nice people and had a really nice time.

The dinner was Saturday night after we arrived, so we had Saturday to explore. We went to Red Rock Amphitheater, which was closed when we got there due to a concert to be held later that day. But we were still able to get a taste of the land and rock formations.  We had to get some ice cream later in the day, and play in the water fountains a short distance from our friend's townhome.  Denver is a very pretty city, with a lot of history, but it's also very burgeoning.  Would love to go back to visit longer (when it's cooler.)
